Koh Phangan is about 70 kilometers from the mainland Thailand and its part of the Surrathani province, located in the Gulf of Thailand in a group of Islands that make up the Samui Archipelago which is a group of over 40 Islands. The Island is about 1:30 mins from the mainland Donsak, Thailand with the fast catamaran speedboat.Its about 25 min boat ride from Koh Samui, which acts as the main air link to Phangan.The Island is the fifth largest Island in Thailand and is 167 square kilometers. 90% of Koh Phangan is unspoiled tropical forest and surrounded by white sandy beaches and because of its granite structure there are many small mountains around the Island which make it a perfect place to trek or camp. The wildlife on Koh Phangan has a large selection of species from monkeys to lots of exotic birds, lizards, insects and hundreds of differant types of butterflies.There is also an amazing underworld that surrounds the Island with over 10km’s of natural coral. Over 20 top dive sites are located around the Island. Koh Phangan is an eco-tourism destination with a great selection of activities to do in the wild jungles.

High viewpoints and wonderful scenery make this Island one of the most beautiful Islands in the Gulf of Thailand. The most popular activities are trekking to the many waterfalls on the Island or just trekking to the highest peak Kho Rah. The nightlife of Koh Phangan is based around event parties. The most famous being the Full Moon party which happens every full moon on the Haad Rin beach. The party attracts over 20,000 people per month.

Koh Phangan has a variety of shops, these are mainly in the main town of Thong Sala. You find clothes shops, boutiques, pharmacies, and a selection of small grocery shops. The Island has three large supermarkets, Big C, Tesco and Makro. Then there are the 24 hour everything shops. 7/11 and Family marts are all over the Island and open 24 hours. Along some of the roads you will find many fresh fruit and vegetable shops. The shops on the Island are big branded shops like Samui. Its not the ideal place to go out and find a decent shirt for example, and if you are looking for a decent brand, you will be better of going to Koh Samui. Every Saturday in Thong Sala, they have a weekly market called Walking Street, with a selection of different souvenirs and local Thai foods.
